The Manna Food Project and Manna Food Pantry are non-denominational and non-profit with a clear vision to help feed the hungry throughout northern Michigan. Our operation is now two-fold stemming from humble beginnings.

What began as the idea for a soup kitchen, offering nourishment to those who might be hungry, The Manna Food Project is now a food bank warehouse distributing surplus food to over 35 pantries and agencies throughout northern Michigan.

Working with Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank, Manna is responsible for acquiring both food and non-food items which are then distributed through these pantries/agencies for a nominal fee to families in their communities at no charge.

Within The Manna Food Project warehouse is the Manna Food Pantry.  Our pantry (open on Tuesday mornings), is just one of the many pantries/agencies serviced by The Manna Food Project.  All pantries/agencies are required to follow the guidelines established by Feeding America, formerly America’s Second Harvest.  Requirements include passing all food along to the families at no charge, requiring minimal documentation from families obtaining the food, and maintaining proper standards and records for the handling of all food items.

The Manna Food Project is managed by an executive director who oversees the procurement and monthly distribution of over 140,000 pounds of food. Equating one pound of food to one meal served points out the magnitude of our operation.

Since 1987, the organization has been a successful partner in distributing over 16 million pounds of food to those in need at no charge. Today, The Manna Food Project helps to serve over 3400 families each month.
